Krause Springs Engagement Session

Some engagement sessions feel like a slow exhale, and this one at Krause Springs had that feeling from the start.
Krause Springs is one of those Texas spots that gives you variety without making the whole session feel rushed. There’s water, greenery, rock, warm light, and quiet corners that don’t feel overly posed or polished. Fo r an engagement session, that kind of setting matters. It gives us room to move, room to play, and room to let the photos feel like the two of you instead of a checklist of poses.
For this session, we planned for an hour and a half, two outfits, and plenty of time to settle in. That combination made such a difference.
Why Krause Springs is such a good engagement session location
Krause Springs, located in Spicewood, Texas, has a natural, relaxed feel that works beautifully for engagement photos. It’s known for its spring-fed water, big trees, stone textures, and peaceful Hill Country setting. That mix gives the final gallery a lot more range than one single backdrop could.
That’s one of the reasons I love photographing here as an Austin Engagement Photographer. It feels close enough to Austin to be practical, but it has that peaceful Texas Hill Country feeling that makes the whole session feel like a little escape.
The best locations aren’t always the ones with the biggest view. Sometimes, they’re the ones that give us options without needing to drive all over town. Krause Springs does that really well.
An hour and a half gives the session room to breathe
A shorter session can absolutely be beautiful, but an hour and a half gives us something extra, time to warm up.
Most couples don’t show up feeling instantly comfortable in front of the camera. That’s completely normal. Unless modeling is part of everyday life, being photographed can feel a little strange at first. The first 10 or 15 minutes are usually about getting used to the camera, learning how I guide you, and realizing you don’t have to know what to do with your hands every second.
By the middle of the session, things start to feel easier. The shoulders relax. The smiles get more natural. The little in-between moments start happening. That’s usually where some of my favorite photos come from.
With an hour and a half at Krause Springs, we had time for:
A relaxed start without rushing into the “perfect” shot
A few different backdrops around the property
Walking photos, close-up portraits, and more playful movement
A full outfit change without losing momentum
A slower pace that helped the session feel like a date, not a production
That extra time doesn’t mean we’re taking the same photo over and over. It means we get to create a gallery with more feeling, more variety, and more honest moments.

Two outfit changes made the gallery feel more complete
Two outfits can completely change the tone of an engagement session.
For this Krause Springs session, having two looks gave the final gallery more range. One outfit can feel more dressed up, romantic, or polished. The other can be more casual, relaxed, or true to everyday life. Both sides matter.
If you’re planning two outfits, I usually recommend choosing looks that feel different without feeling like costumes. For example:
One outfit that feels a little elevated, like a dress, suit jacket, or coordinated dressier look
One outfit that feels like something you’d actually wear on a date
Colors that work with the location instead of fighting it
Shoes you can walk in, especially for natural locations like Krause Springs
Comfort matters more than people think. If an outfit needs constant fixing, it can pull attention away from the moment. The best outfit is one that lets you move, breathe, sit, walk, laugh, and forget about it once we start shooting.
The variety comes from more than just the location
Krause Springs brings a lot to the table, but the real variety in a session comes from how we use it.
During an hour and a half session, we’re not just changing backgrounds. We’re changing energy. Some photos are closer and quieter. Some have movement. Some look straight at the camera, while others feel more candid. Some are sweet and romantic, while others feel relaxed and a little goofy.
That kind of variety matters because engagement photos have more than one job. They can be used for save-the-dates, wedding websites, guest books, framed prints, and just having photos that mark this season of life. A strong gallery should give options without feeling disconnected.
For example, one part of the session might focus on classic portraits that parents and grandparents will love. Another part might feel more playful and casual, the kind of photos that feel like your actual relationship. Both belong in the same gallery.
That’s where guidance matters. I’m not expecting anyone to show up with a list of poses memorized. I’ll direct you in a way that keeps things moving but still leaves space for natural moments to happen.
A few thoughts if you’re planning a Krause Springs engagement session
Krause Springs is beautiful, but it’s still an outdoor Texas location, so a little planning helps.
Wear shoes that make sense for walking. Bring an outfit change that’s easy to switch into. Think about colors that pair well with greens, stone, water, and warm light. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and simple patterns usually photograph well here.
It also helps to leave space in the schedule. If the session feels packed too tightly, that easy, relaxed feeling is harder to get. An hour and a half gives us the freedom to slow down, especially with two outfits.
There is a $30 fee to photograph professionally at this location but 10/10 it is SO WORTH IT!
Krause Springs gave us the perfect setting for that. The two outfits added range. The longer session gave everything room to unfold. And by the end, the photos felt relaxed, personal, and full of the kind of variety that makes an engagement gallery really worth having.
